Functional Anatomy: Considerations for a Sustainable Yoga Practice

  • Lincoln Yoga Center 2127 Winthrop Road Lincoln, NE, 68502 United States (map)

Yoga Educators,

Has it been a while since you studied anatomy? Are you interested in biomechanics, and how it relates to yoga asana?  Are you curious about approaches beyond traditional yoga anatomy that can support and enhance your teaching skill set?

If you answered yes to even one of these questions, this is the workshop series for you!

Feb 8th & 9th as part of the Lincoln Yoga Center 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Open to yoga teachers with a 200-hour certification.

During this weekend we will:

  • Learn what biomechanics is and how it applies to yoga asana.

  • Dive into what "the core" really is, and how to get your students in touch with the 3D approach for greater integration. Hint: We'll learn how to deviate from the overused "navel to spine" and "belly in and up" cueing.

  • Re-examine typical & traditional alignment instruction with a functional approach to nurture sustainability.

  • Discover more about the nervous system; How it influences our movement and how it can be impacted by our teaching methods.

  • Define key terms such as mobility, flexibility and stability and how to communicate these concepts to your student population.

  • Explore the "why" behind verbal cues, and audit cues that may be outdated or unsupported by movement science.

  • Master the skill of deconstructing yoga asana to help your students embody their practice in an intelligent and empowering way.

  • Expand your knowledge of the physiology of breathing and refine your breathing instructions.

"The best teachers are lifelong students." Is your teaching current?

Investment: $80 for a single day, $150 for both. Lecture, Power Point, and movement practice will be intermixed.

Eligible for 14 Yoga Alliance CEU's.

Participants will be given handouts and gain access to Sara’s online resource library and will be welcomed into a cohort of educators in a private Facebook group. As movement educators interested in continued learning, we empower one another and provide ongoing mentorship by sharing our expertise and by fostering an open dialogue of educational strategies & teaching tools.
